Oatmeal Apple Crisp

Oatmeal Apple Crisp

Baked Goods,Snacks & Sweets

Apple crisp has a soft spot in my heart.   I grew up making apple crisp with my mom every Thanksgiving and Christmas.  I prefer a crisp over a pie any day. This dessert is the perfect way to end Thanksgiving dinner.   And such a sweet start to the day after thanksgiving!!   I'm pretty sure that eating apple crisp for breakfast is acceptable in every household.  Am I Right? I mean, it's basically just oatmeal and apples.  Well, sort of. Sure, there is some other stuff in there but we won't talk about that right now. It's also very versatile.   The pistachio sauce goes well over vegetables, chicken, fish and would even be delicious over the turkey you are making next week. I made this recipe during school last year when I was assigned to teach a  15 minute cooking demonstration.  Add in another 15 minutes of prep time and that's how long this recipe takes. (more…)

I used to think dessert wasn't dessert unless it's main ingredient was chocolate.   But I have changed my ways.   Don't get me wrong- I am still a chocolate girl.  But I am finding the joy in non chocolate desserts too. This walnut date pie with cinnamon and orange zest is warm and comforting.   I love the flavors, especially topped with a dollop of unsweetened homemade whip cream.   What better way to end Thanksgiving dinner.
